Jakarta Government Plans to Expand Waste Exhibition to Parks and Schools

The Jakarta Provincial Government is interested in developing a waste exhibition in parks and schools across the capital as an educational tool for residents. Head of the Jakarta Environment Agency, Dudi Gardesi Asikin, stated that the concept could be expanded to recreational spaces such as Taman Bendera Pusaka and Tebet Eco Park, or within schools, potentially incorporating semi-game elements to make the education more engaging. The idea was inspired by the ‘Bukan Tentang Sampah’ (Not About Waste) playroom featured at the Jakarta Eco Future Festival 2026, held at City Hall. The space invites visitors to view waste from a different perspective and encourages curiosity and participation. It features various zones demonstrating how different materials are treated, exchanged, valued, and processed, not through complex industrial processes but through everyday actions by individuals and communities. Visitors are invited to engage, walk, choose, and reflect throughout the prepared zones, aligning with the festival’s role as a learning space for environmentally responsible public events. The Jakarta administration is currently promoting waste separation at the source as part of efforts to improve waste management and reduce the volume sent to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Facility.
