Jakarta Government Mourns SMAN 6 Student Killed by Cable, Covers Funeral Costs

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has conveyed his condolences over the death of a student from SMAN 6 Jakarta, identified as NAEP (16), who was killed after becoming entangled in a cable while riding pillion on a motorcycle in South Jakarta. The Jakarta Provincial Government is assisting the victim’s family, including covering the funeral costs.

“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. A student named Neisha Amalia Evrian Putri, 16 years old, a 10th-grade pupil at SMA 6 Jakarta, did indeed die yesterday when she was struck by a cable while riding pillion,” Pramono said in Central Jakarta on Friday (19/6/2026).

Pramono stated he had ordered several relevant agencies to provide full assistance to the victim’s family, from support services to the funeral process. “I have instructed the Transportation Agency, the Education Agency, Bina Marga, and others to help fully, including with yesterday’s funeral,” he said.

Additionally, the Jakarta Provincial Government, through Baznas BAZIS DKI Jakarta, provided compensation to the family. Pramono noted that his administration also facilitated students wishing to accompany the deceased to her final resting place. “In particular, Baznas BAZIS, through the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, also provided compensation. Yesterday we sent three buses so students could accompany the deceased to the burial, and we also covered the costs for that,” he said.

Pramono explained that, based on information he received, the cable that caused the tragic incident was a severed cable. “You may already know the chronology, but the gist is that it happened and the cable was a PLN cable that had been cut,” he stated.

Regarding the legal process for the incident, Pramono deferred entirely to law enforcement and the victim’s family. According to him, the family has also requested that the case be processed according to applicable regulations. “This will proceed on its own, because the family understands the law. The grandmother also requested it. Since this matter has now entered the private domain, I leave it to them,” he said.

Previously, a 10th-grade student from SMAN 6 Jakarta with the initials NAEP died after falling from a motorcycle that got caught on a wire cable and was then run over by a school bus in South Jakarta. The victim was being taken to school by her father at the time.

“The incident occurred in the morning, around 5.30 a.m. WIB. A motorcycle with two riders was passing along Jalan Lauser. They live in the Ciledug area and were taking a child to school,” said Kebayoran Baru Sub-district Head Rachmat Mulyadi, as reported by Antara on Thursday (18/6).

He said the accident happened when the motorcycle the victim was riding passed the location on Jalan Lauser, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. The motorcycle’s handlebars allegedly got caught on a cable that was stretched across and protruding into the road, causing the vehicle to wobble and the riders to fall. “When passing Jalan Lauser, right in front of the park, there was a cable stretched across, protruding slightly into the road, so the rider’s handlebars got caught, wobbled, and then fell. During the fall, the passenger died,” Rachmat explained.
