Jakarta Government Launches Free Ciliwung River Adventure Programme Until October
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s Water Resources Service (SDA), together with relevant stakeholders, is holding the Ciliwung River Adventure. The activity can be followed by the public free of charge. “Free, free, free. The Water Resources Service is actually only facilitating. Facilitating how all components of society, from friends at the Khatulistiwa Response Team, Sobat Air Jakarta, the Environmental Service through the Water Agency UPS, we all gather here together,” said Secretary of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Water Resources Service Nugraharyadi to reporters at the Creative Zone: Riverview by JXB, Central Jakarta, Saturday (27/6/2026). Nugraharyadi said this activity was held to educate the public not to litter in rivers. He said this activity is part of a series of events celebrating the 499th anniversary of DKI Jakarta. “Clearly the first thing is public education. The first thing is never throw rubbish in the river. It may be small, but we must make it a habit for the community,” he said. He said residents who want to participate in this activity can see complete information on the Instagram account @sobatair.jkt to book tickets. He said this activity will be held for 6 months from May to October, taking place 2 days each month. “It has been routine since last year, we have been carrying it out. Coincidentally for 2026, we are carrying it out from May, June, July, August, September, October, 6 months. Because if we carry it out in November-December the water is definitely high, the water discharge, and it is very dangerous. So we only carry it out for up to 6 months and we carry it out every month,” he said. Nugraharyadi ensured the safety of the activity’s implementation by involving health workers, a rescue team, as well as safety vests and hats that participants will use. He said security and safety are important aspects that are considered. “So once again, even though this is fun, and we indeed want everything to be fun, the most important thing is safety. That is the most important. That is why we have also prepared cooperation with the Health Service in front there, the white troops, they are there to help us if something happens. We also have a boat guarding here so if something happens we can immediately push the boat out,” he said. Furthermore, Nugraharyadi hopes that people who have participated in this activity can become agents of change to maintain river cleanliness. He highlighted the condition of rivers in the DKI Jakarta area. “Clearly, I want the people who participate to become agents of change. Meaning inviting the community to change towards a better direction, especially how we can protect our rivers. Maintain cleanliness,” said Nugraharyadi. “This is extraordinary, perhaps in several media we see how our rivers are very dirty. Earlier I also joined, very dirty too. That is what we must protect. And we start from ourselves, then we spread it to the community,” he added.
