Jakarta Government Highlights Key Programmes Ahead of City's 500th Anniversary
Special Staff for Public Communication to the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Chico Hakim, has revealed a number of programmes being prioritised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government ahead of the city’s five-century milestone in 2027. One of the most highlighted programmes covers the transportation sector. Chico mentioned that the provincial government will accelerate the integration and expansion of public services, including the operation of the LRT Phase 1B Velodrome-Manggarai line and the construction of MRT Phase 2A. “This includes a special anniversary gift in the form of free public transport (MRT, LRT, TransJakarta, JakLingko) to make citizen mobility easier and more affordable,” Chico stated via text message on Tuesday. Furthermore, in the education sector, the free private school programme continues to be implemented to expand access to quality education for all children in Jakarta without burdening parents. The reduction in dropout rates is accompanied by riverbank management, humane relocation, and a mandatory waste sorting movement from home. “All of this is to improve the quality of housing and create a healthier environment for residents,” Chico said. According to him, the main goal of all these programmes is to improve the welfare of Jakarta residents ahead of the city’s 500th anniversary. Chico emphasised that development must be directly present in daily life through good transportation access, equitable education and health services, job opportunities, social assistance, and a clean and comfortable environment.
