Jakarta Government Fines Waste Transporter Rp10 Million for Illegal Dumping

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has taken firm action against illegal waste dumping practices. Waste transportation provider PT Sinar Berdikari Cemerlang Idaman (SBCI) has been slapped with an administrative sanction in the form of a Rp10 million fine and a first written warning after being caught dumping rubbish illegally on Jalan Reformasi, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Dudi Gardesi, emphasised that this enforcement is part of efforts to regulate waste management in the capital. He reminded all service providers to be fully responsible for the waste they transport until it reaches an official processing facility.

“Every transportation provider has the responsibility to ensure the waste they carry is taken to the proper facility. If violations are found, we will take action,” Dudi said in an official statement on Wednesday (12/8).

The case came to light following a public report via social media. The Head of the Supervision and Legal Compliance Division of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Helmy Zulhidayat, explained the chronology of the discovery of the illegal practice.

Based on the current context analysis, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government imposed sanctions in accordance with the regulations in force in Jakarta. Helmy Zulhidayat stressed that supervision will be tightened to ensure the entire waste transportation chain operates in an orderly manner.

“The goal is not merely to impose sanctions, but to ensure that illegal dumping practices cease and that waste management in Jakarta becomes more orderly,” he concluded.
