Jakarta Government Drafts Regulation for Mass Planting of Rice Companion Crops

The Jakarta Provincial Government is drafting a regulation for a mass planting movement of rice companion crops to be implemented across the capital, as part of efforts to support food security and productive land use. Head of Agriculture at the Jakarta Food Security, Marine Affairs, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), Iwan Indriyanto, stated on Thursday that the regulation is being prepared and is targeted for completion and issuance in July. In addition to optimising land already used by the community, the agency is inventorying idle provincial government assets to be used as cultivation sites. Indriyanto noted that the total potential area of government land that could be utilised is estimated at over five hectares, though the plots are scattered across various locations. He added that no minimum land area limit has been set, as long as the land is safe for asset use and suitable for planting. While the formal instruction from the regional secretary is still being drafted, the planting movement has already commenced across all administrative areas of Jakarta as an initial step, with an official launch planned for the near future.
