Jakarta Government Develops Creative Financing Scheme for Bantargebang TPST
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is developing a creative financing scheme as one of the supporting sources for the transformation of the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST).
The scheme complements funding through the Regional Budget (APBD) and other sources to accelerate the application of controlled landfill towards zero open dumping.
“The transformation of the Bantargebang TPST remains supported through the APBD and other financing sources. Creative financing is one of the supporting schemes to broaden collaboration whilst accelerating the provision of the facilities needed,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Dudi Gardesi Asikin, in a statement issued in Jakarta on Friday.
He said the creative funding scheme forms part of the provincial government’s strategy to broaden financing support in improving the city’s waste management.
Through optimising the APBD and collaborating with the business community, the transformation of the Bantargebang TPST is expected to proceed in stages, in a measurable and sustainable manner.
Dudi said early-stage collaboration with the business community is being realised through the provision of cover material and geomembrane to support the application of controlled landfill. This material is needed so that the management of the waste landfill zones becomes more controlled.
Furthermore, he explained that under a controlled landfill system, waste is no longer simply piled up in the open. The placement and compaction of waste is carried out in a more orderly fashion, then covered with certain material periodically to reduce odours, fire risks, environmental disturbance, and the potential for landslides.
In this collaboration, PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa and PT Pertamina Retail are contributing cover material and geomembrane to support the transformation of the Bantargebang TPST.
According to Dudi, this support is a concrete example of synergy between government and the business community in strengthening Jakarta’s waste management.
He also stressed that business involvement does not replace the government’s responsibility. Rather, the collaboration strengthens the various efforts already undertaken through the APBD and other financing sources.
“The transformation of the Bantargebang TPST requires working together. The broader the collaboration built, the greater the support for achieving waste management that is safer, more modern, and environmentally friendly,” Dudi concluded.
