Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta, Chico Hakim, has stated that connectivity is the key to developing public transport in Jakarta. He expressed hope that the operation of the Jakarta LRT Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route will encourage residents to leave their private vehicles behind.

“We believe that the easier and more integrated public transport is, the more residents will be willing to abandon private vehicles. This is part of a long-term effort to reduce congestion and pollution in Jakarta,” Chico told reporters on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

Chico assessed that the LRT, which is now directly connected to Manggarai Station, provides greater convenience for the public. Manggarai Station is one of the city’s key transport hubs, connected to the KRL commuter line, airport rail link, and TransJakarta.

“The main key is connectivity. The LRT is now directly connected to Manggarai Station, which is a major hub for the KRL, airport rail link, and TransJakarta,” he said.

Beyond intermodal connectivity, Chico highlighted that the LRT’s operating hours have been aligned with those of the KRL. The LRT operates from 05.00 to 24.00 WIB.

“With operating hours aligned with the KRL (05.00-24.00), journeys become more comfortable and efficient,” Chico said.

Regarding LRT fares, Chico said the subsidy amount is still being calculated and evaluated. The Jakarta provincial government wants to first review operational data and passenger numbers once the LRT route is fully operational.

“The subsidy amount is certainly still under calculation and evaluation, because we want to see the actual operational data and passenger numbers after the full route is operational,” he said.

“What is certain is that the Jakarta provincial government remains committed to keeping fares affordable for the public,” he added.

He said the final LRT fare will be decided after the transition period ends. The fare determination is targeted for October.

“After the transition period ends, the final fare will be decided together in October,” Chico concluded.

The Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route spans approximately 12.2 kilometres and serves 11 stations. Manggarai LRT Station is also being prepared as an integration hub with TransJakarta, the KRL Commuter Line, and the airport rail link.

The Jakarta LRT route is scheduled to begin full operations on 26 August 2026, with operating hours from 05.00 to 24.00 WIB.
