Jakarta Government Boosts Fishermen's Competence for Better Catches

The Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency of the Seribu Islands is improving the competence of fishermen in Pulau Pari and Pulau Tidung urban villages, South Seribu Islands, so that their catches can be maximised through coaching and the distribution of aid. “This action aims to improve the competence of fishermen while providing facility support so that catches are more optimal and their quality is maintained,” said the Head of Section for the Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency, Gama Eka Anantha, in Jakarta on Thursday. He said his party wants to ensure that fishermen have adequate knowledge in fisheries management and are supported by adequate equipment so that their welfare improves. The coaching featured speakers from the AUP Fisheries Business Polytechnic, Prof Maman Hermawan and Dr Bongbongan Kusmedy. Both presenters provided material on effective fishing techniques and sustainable fisheries business management. “This activity was attended by 80 participants who are members of the Joint Business Group (KUB) of fishermen from Pari Island and Tidung Island,” he said. He also handed over aid in the form of environmentally friendly fishing gear and cool boxes to the fishermen. The aid is expected to replace fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly and maintain the freshness of the catch until it reaches the mainland. “This aid is the commitment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the KPKP Sub-agency to support the fisheries sector in the Seribu Islands to remain productive while preserving the marine ecosystem,” he said. Meanwhile, a representative of the Ikan Como Joint Business Group, Safrudin Bin Hasan, said the aid provided was very useful, especially the cool boxes which can maintain the quality of the fish so that their selling value remains high. “This activity motivates us to work more enthusiastically,” he said.
