Jakarta Goes Dark for One Hour on Saturday Night, Monas to HI Roundabout Included
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will switch off lights for one hour on Saturday (25/4/2026) evening, precisely from 20:30 to 21:30 WIB. This policy is being implemented to commemorate Earth Day 2026 and as an effort to curb carbon emissions in the capital. The power blackout will occur simultaneously across five areas of Jakarta, covering various facilities such as office buildings, shopping centres, hotels, restaurants, apartments, and several protocol and arterial roads. “Together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, we are reducing carbon emissions in Jakarta by turning off lights for one hour. The light blackout in Jakarta will take place on several roads and buildings in various areas,” reads the official Instagram account of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government on Wednesday (22/4/2026). Here are the roads in the five areas of Jakarta that will experience the blackout: Central Jakarta: Jalan Sudirman (Dukuh Atas to Sampoerna Strategic Building) West Jakarta: East Jakarta: In addition to roads, the blackout will also occur at several city icons, such as the City Hall Building, National Monument (Monas), Arjuna Wiwaha Statue, Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, Youth Statue, Heroes’ Statue, and General Sudirman Statue. This light-switching-off action is not the first time it has been carried out. On 26 April 2025, the DKI Provincial Government also ran a similar programme and recorded significant results. At that time, electricity consumption savings reached 439.76 megawatt hours (MWh), economic savings of around Rp 636 million, and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 365.53 tonnes of CO2.
