Jakarta floods widen as 75 RTs and 19 roads submerged
Jakarta’s regional disaster management agency (BPBD) said that by 08:00 on Sunday, 75 rukun tetangga (RT) and 19 roads in the capital were flooded due to heavy rain in the area. The head of the BPBD’s Disaster Data and Information Centre, Mohamad Yohan, said in a Sunday statement that the heavy rain that hit Jakarta and its surroundings from Saturday (7 March) to Sunday caused flooding in Jakarta. Yohan explained that authorities had taken various measures to mitigate the impact of the floods in affected locations. According to him, current data show floods engulfing 75 RT and 19 roads located in West Jakarta, East Jakarta and South Jakarta. Yohan also noted that water heights ranged from 20 centimetres to 1.7 metres at the highest. ‘There are three RTs in Kelurahan Cipete Utara and one RT in Kelurahan Pela Mampang that were flooded up to 1.7 metres,’ he said. The following are the 75 RTs and 19 streets that were flooded on Sunday up to 08:00 WIB: West Jakarta has 22 RT, comprising: Kelurahan Kedaung Kali Angke: 4 RT, Height: 60-70 cm; Kelurahan Kedoya Selatan: 4 RT, Height: 30 cm; Kelurahan Kedoya Utara: 4 RT, Height: 20 cm; Kelurahan Sukabumi Selatan: 2 RT, Height: 100 cm; Kelurahan Joglo: 1 RT, Height: 65 cm; Kelurahan Kembangan Selatan: 5 RT, Height: 40-50 cm; Kelurahan Kembangan Utara: 2 RT, Height: 60 cm. South Jakarta has 22 RT, comprising: Kelurahan Cilandak Barat: 1 RT, Height: 120 cm; Kelurahan Cipete Utara: 3 RT, Height: 170 cm; Kelurahan Petogogan: 12 RT, Height: 20 cm; Kelurahan Pela Mampang: 1 RT, Height: 170 cm; Kelurahan Duren Tiga: 3 RT, Height: 60-100 cm; Kelurahan Cilandak Timur: 2 RT, Height: 120 cm. Yohan added that BPBD DKI Jakarta has deployed personnel to monitor flooding in each area and coordinate with the Dinas SDA, Dinas Bina Marga, and Dinas Gulkarmat to pump out standing water and ensure flood-control barriers function properly. ‘We urge the public to remain cautious and vigilant for the risk of flooding.
