Jakarta Fines Waste Hauler IDR 10 Million for Illegal Dumping
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has imposed an administrative sanction of Rp10 million and a first written warning on waste haulage provider PT Sinar Berdikari Cemerlang Idaman, which was proven to have illegally dumped rubbish on Jalan Reformasi, Cilincing, North Jakarta.
The enforcement is part of the Jakarta provincial government’s efforts to bring order to waste management while ensuring that every service provider fulfils its obligations in accordance with regulations.
“Every haulage service provider has a responsibility to ensure that the waste they transport is taken to the proper facility and managed according to the rules. If violations are found, we will take action,” said Head of the Jakarta Environment Agency (DLH) Dudi Gardesi in an official statement on Wednesday.
He said the Jakarta Environment Agency is strengthening supervision and tracing vehicles and other service providers suspected of engaging in illegal waste dumping practices.
“We want to ensure that the entire waste transport chain operates in an orderly manner. No party should be allowed to charge the public or businesses for haulage services and then dump the waste carelessly. Practices like this must be stopped,” said Dudi.
Meanwhile, Head of the Supervision and Legal Compliance Division of the Jakarta Environment Agency Helmy Zulhidayat said his team began identifying the case after receiving information about a video of illegal waste dumping activity on Monday (10/8). The video circulated through the Instagram account @Ijoeel.
The Jakarta Environment Agency then summoned the company on Tuesday (11/8) for clarification and further examination.
A representative of PT Sinar Berdikari Cemerlang Idaman subsequently admitted that the vehicle in the video belonged to the company.
On the other hand, the results of the field inspection also found employee housing and a parking area for the company’s waste transport vehicles around the illegal dumping site.
“Based on the results of the verification and examination, we imposed an administrative sanction in the form of a coercive fine of Rp10 million on PT SBCI (Sinar Berdikari Cemerlang Idaman) in accordance with DKI Jakarta Provincial Regulation Number 3 of 2013 on Waste Management. The company was also given a first written warning in accordance with DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 102 of 2021,” said Helmy.
He stressed that the enforcement is part of the restructuring of the waste transport system so that every service provider works responsibly and in accordance with the rules.
“Supervision will continue. Every finding will be traced and every violation will be acted upon according to the regulations. The goal is not merely to impose sanctions, but to ensure that illegal waste dumping practices stop and that waste management in Jakarta becomes more orderly,” Helmy asserted.
