Jakarta experiences 0.21 per cent inflation in April 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta reported that Jakarta experienced monthly inflation of 0.21 per cent in April 2026 compared to March 2026, dominated by an increase in the price index for the transportation group.

“Inflation in April 2026 in DKI Jakarta on a monthly basis was dominated by an increase in the price index for the transportation group by 1.46 per cent with a contribution of 0.19 per cent,” said the Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, in Jakarta on Monday.

The commodities contributing the largest to inflation in that group were air transport fares and petrol, with contributions of 0.15 per cent and 0.04 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the contribution from air transport inflation this time is the highest in the last four years.

“The high air transport inflation was triggered by the rise in avtur (aviation fuel) prices and the return to normal air transport fares after the Lebaran discounts,” said Kadarmanto.

Meanwhile, the price increase for non-subsidised petrol on 18 April previously caused that commodity to experience monthly inflation of 0.73 per cent and contributed 0.04 per cent to inflation in DKI Jakarta.

The largest contributing commodity to inflation in this group is fried chicken, which contributed 0.04 per cent to inflation.

“The increase in fried chicken prices was triggered by the rise in raw material prices such as cooking oil, then wheat flour and others, as well as the impact of the increase in plastic packaging prices,” he said.

In addition to fried chicken, there are other commodities in this group that also experienced inflation, such as rice with side dishes, pizza, Japanese food, martabak, fried duck, hamburgers, gudeg, and others.

“However, their contributions are not as large as from fried chicken. The price increase in these ready-to-eat food commodities was also driven, among other things, by increases in raw material prices and plastic prices,” said Kadarmanto.

Other groups that also contributed to this month’s inflation are household equipment, tools, and routine maintenance, which contributed 0.03 per cent to inflation.

Meanwhile, Jakarta’s inflation in April 2026 on a monthly basis is higher than the national figure recorded at 0.13 per cent.
