Jakarta experiences 0.12 per cent monthly inflation in May 2026
The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for DKI Jakarta recorded a monthly inflation rate of 0.12 per cent in May 2026, dominated by a 0.55 per cent increase in the transport price index.
“In May 2026, monthly inflation in DKI Jakarta was dominated by the increase in the transport group price index by 0.55 per cent, contributing 0.07 per cent to inflation,” stated the Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Other groups contributing to Jakarta’s monthly inflation in May 2026 included food, beverages, and tobacco with a contribution of 0.06 per cent, followed by housing, water, electricity, and household fuels with a contribution of 0.02 per cent. The food and beverage services or restaurant group also contributed 0.02 per cent.
Kadarmanto noted that the primary commodity contributing to Jakarta’s monthly inflation in May 2006 was petrol, which provided a 0.05 per cent contribution.
“On average, the price level for petrol in May 2026 was Rp13,466 per litre. The rise in petrol prices, particularly non-subsidised petrol due to the surge in global oil prices, caused high inflation in the petrol commodity during May 2026,” Kadarmanto explained.
Additionally, red chillies (0.04 per cent contribution), cooking oil, shallots, and household fuels each contributed 0.02 per cent to inflation. Meanwhile, Jakarta’s monthly inflation in May 2026 was lower than the national inflation rate, which was recorded at 0.28 per cent.
