The Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, Dudi Gardesi Asiki, has revealed the measures being taken if the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site is closed due to its inability to accommodate more waste. Dudi stated that several efforts are underway, from sorting waste before disposal to Bantargebang to optimising the Rorotan RDF facility.

“Sort the waste for the time being, that’s why I’m accelerating the organic waste first. Because the organic waste isn’t marketable, sir, but it turns out we can distribute it everywhere,” Dudi said during a meeting with Commission D of the Jakarta DPRD at the DPRD building in Central Jakarta on Thursday (23/4/2026).

Dudi is optimistic that sorting 40% of the waste, especially organic, can resolve the waste problem. The remainder, according to Dudi, will be channelled to several compost factories that require organic waste.

“Hopefully, at minimum, I think we’re optimistic about solving 40% in Jakarta, and the remaining 60% I’ll try to direct to factories that might be willing to take the organic waste from us,” he stated.

Dudi also mentioned that the Rorotan RDF facility will be optimised. He said it would be maximised to the fullest extent possible.

“I’ll try to optimise the RDF in Rorotan itself, which currently has a capacity for fresh waste of around 800 tonnes, sir, from a total capacity of 1,000. I’ll optimise it to 1,000 and change it from 5/7 to 7/7,” he explained.

He said that sorting waste would reduce the disposal burden.

“The main point is at least 1,000 tonnes of fresh waste over seven days per week; if that’s helped, it will provide significant relief, plus the optimisation mentioned earlier. If sorted up to the north, sir, or if it can be done, perhaps we can send all the dry waste directly to Rorotan,” he added.
