Jakarta Education Agency Urges Teachers to Teach with Love, Create Safe and Enjoyable Schools
The Jakarta Provincial Education Agency (Disdik) is encouraging teachers and education staff to prioritise love in carrying out their teaching duties. This step is part of efforts to create a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable learning environment for all students.
Head of the Jakarta Provincial Education Agency, Nahdiana, said that teachers and schools have an important role in shaping character as well as developing students’ potential. Therefore, schools need to become spaces that make students feel safe, comfortable, and settled, as well as having a sense of love and pride in their school.
According to Nahdiana, these efforts are in line with the policy motto ‘No One Left Behind, No School Left Behind’. Through the ‘Langkah Pasti Anak Jakarta’ movement, the Jakarta Education Agency is committed to ensuring all children obtain equal rights, access, and learning opportunities.
‘Through the Langkah Pasti Anak Jakarta Movement, the Education Agency is committed to supporting the Jakarta Provincial Government to ensure all children receive equal rights, access, and learning opportunities for the future they desire,’ said Nahdiana.
She explained that the creation of an enjoyable learning atmosphere also needs to be supported by meeting students’ needs. One of these is ensuring that education costs do not become a barrier for children to participate in learning.
This is realised through various forms of educational support, including the provision of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) Plus and the Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU) for students who meet the criteria.
In addition to ensuring access to education, the Jakarta Education Agency is also encouraging schools to provide space for students to develop their interests and talents. Facilities such as art rooms can be used by students to channel creativity as well as develop their potential.
Furthermore, Nahdiana said that improving the quality of human resources and education governance is one of the quick win programme targets of the Jakarta Education Agency. This strengthening is carried out through improving the competence of school principals, teachers, and education staff.
‘This capacity strengthening is important to deliver professional, adaptive, and equitable education governance, as well as to prepare Jakarta’s young generation to be ready to face global challenges,’ she said.
According to Nahdiana, efforts to create a safe and enjoyable educational environment cannot be carried out by schools alone. Synergy between family, school, and community as the three centres of education is an important part of building an interconnected education ecosystem.
This spirit is also applied at the education unit level. Head of SDN Jatinegara Kaum 11 Pagi, Sri Kustiah, said that teachers have a major role in building a positive learning atmosphere at school.
According to Sri, an enjoyable learning process begins with teachers who love their profession. When teachers teach with heart and full of joy, that atmosphere can be felt and transmitted to students.
‘Teachers must teach from the heart. When a teacher already loves their profession, the teacher will teach with joy. When the teacher feels joyful, that joy will spread to the students so that learning activities in the classroom become enjoyable and meaningful,’ said Sri.
She assessed that a positive learning atmosphere makes students more comfortable participating in learning. This condition can ultimately help students optimise their abilities, interests, and talents.
Therefore, strengthening teacher capacity is not only related to academic and pedagogical abilities, but also how educators are able to build positive relationships with students.
‘Teachers who are present with sincerity and love for their profession are expected to be able to create more meaningful learning experiences,’ she said.
Through synergy between government policy, strengthening educator capacity, school support, and the involvement of family and community, the Jakarta Education Agency is encouraging the realisation of schools that are not only places of learning, but also safe, comfortable, and enjoyable spaces for every child.
