Jakarta Education Agency Sets Schedule and Materials for 2026/2027 School Orientation Programme
The school orientation period (MPLS) for new students in DKI Jakarta will take place during the first week of the 2026/2027 academic year. According to Circular Letter Number 70/SE/2026 on the Implementation of the First Day of School and Friendly MPLS, the first day of school for students in formal education units is scheduled for Monday, 13 July 2026. Meanwhile, the first day for students in equivalency education packages A, B, and C will be held on Monday, 27 July 2026.
The implementation of the 2026/2027 Friendly MPLS refers to the Regulation of the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Permendikdasmen) Number 12 of 2026. This updated regulation introduces several changes, including a five-day duration, additional materials, socialisation activities for parents or guardians before the MPLS, and the application of the Safe and Comfortable School Culture principle.
According to the DKI Jakarta Education Agency circular, the objectives of the Friendly MPLS are: introducing students’ self-potential, including talents, interests, learning readiness, and support needs; introducing the curriculum, including motivation, active learning methods, and intra-curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities; introducing school members, including positive relationships with the headmaster, teachers, education staff, and peers; and introducing the school environment, including spaces, facilities, rules, complaint channels, and positive culture.
The MPLS will be conducted over five days during the first week of the academic year. For PAUD/TKLB, SD/SDLB, SMP/SMPLB, and SMA/SMALB/SMK levels, the programme runs from 13 to 17 July 2026, with varying daily schedules. Equivalency education packages A, B, and C will hold their orientation from 27 to 31 July 2026.
The core materials for the MPLS include the Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children movement, cheerful morning activities, polite social media conduct, a culture of smiling, greeting, and courtesy, the Indonesia ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful) movement, and a harmony with friends movement. Optional materials vary by education level, covering topics such as dental hygiene, traditional games, drug abuse prevention, social phenomena among teenagers, and waste sorting and processing. Special needs schools have tailored materials, including self-protection and personal hygiene.
In addition to the optional materials, education units may establish other content according to their specific characteristics, needs, conditions, and the objectives and principles of the Friendly MPLS. The circular strictly prohibits schools from engaging in hazing or other forms of violence, imposing fees or other levies, providing activities irrelevant to the MPLS, using non-educational attributes, involving alumni as organisers, involving students who do not meet the criteria to assist, and conducting activities that contradict the principles of a Safe and Comfortable School Culture.
