Jakarta East City Government Tests 90 Food Samples from Six Traditional Markets
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta East City Government (Jaktim) carried out an integrated food security supervision by testing 90 food samples from six traditional markets.
“Today’s integrated food security supervision at six traditional markets collected 90 samples for safety testing,” said Deputy Mayor of Jakarta East, Kusmanto, at Palmeriam Market, Matraman, Jakarta East, on Tuesday.
The activity was conducted to ensure that food ingredients circulating in the community are safe for consumption and free from harmful substances.
The six markets targeted for supervision were Palmeriam Market, Kampung Ambon Market or Ampera, Pramuka Market, Rawamangun Market, Jatinegara Market, and Cawang Kapling Market.
Kusmanto explained that the supervision targeted various commonly consumed agricultural and livestock commodities, including vegetables, fruits, rice, chicken meat, and beef.
“This supervision is important to ensure that the food sold in traditional markets is truly safe and fit for consumption by the public,” Kusmanto clarified.
During the activity, officers conducted several types of tests, including pesticide residue tests on agricultural products and tests for harmful substances such as formalin, chlorine, and other chemicals in food commodities.
Fifteen samples were taken from each market, with 11 samples from agricultural commodities and 4 from livestock commodities. Thus, the total number of samples tested from the six markets reached 90.
Kusmanto emphasised that the results of this supervision will serve as the basis for evaluation and follow-up if food items that do not meet safety standards are found.
The Jakarta East City Government will also continue to conduct supervision periodically to maintain food quality in the Jakarta East region.
“We want to provide a sense of security to the public that the food ingredients they consume have undergone strict supervision processes,” Kusmanto stated.
This integrated food security supervision involved various cross-agency elements, including officers from the Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-District Office (KPKP) of Jakarta East, the KPKP Agency, Korwas PPNS of Polda Metro Jaya, the Economic Section of the Jakarta East Administrative City, and elements from the Matraman Sub-District.
In addition, several Regional Work Units (UKPD) were involved, such as PPUPKM, Satpol PP, and the Environmental Agency.
“This cross-sector collaboration is expected to strengthen supervision and improve food safety standards in traditional markets,” said Kusmanto.
