Jakarta East City Government Strengthens ASN Collaboration as Foster Parents for Stunting Children
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta East City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) continues to strengthen efforts to accelerate the reduction in stunting rates through the active role of Civil Servants (ASN) as foster parents.
“One of them is the foster parent programme for children indicated as stunting or those already diagnosed with stunting. Every ASN in the Jakarta East City Government is encouraged to actively participate as foster parents,” said Jakarta East Mayor Munjirin in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In this scheme, one ASN can assist one to two stunting children to ensure fulfilment of nutritional needs and optimal attention.
“We encourage innovations such as father figures and child mentees, one child one foster parent, or even more, as well as the active role of sub-district heads and village heads in engaging stakeholders,” Munjirin stated.
According to him, stunting handling cannot be done partially but must touch various aspects of community life. From economic factors, parents’ knowledge levels regarding child-rearing patterns and nutrition, to social and environmental conditions.
“The stunting problem is not just about health, but also related to the economy, parents’ education on eating patterns, to environmental conditions. Therefore, cooperation from all parties is needed, both from UPD and Forkopimko,” Munjirin explained.
“Yesterday, we also held a joint commitment signing as a form of seriousness from all parties in eradicating stunting in the Jakarta East region,” Munjirin said.
According to him, direct involvement of ASN and stakeholders at the regional level can accelerate stunting handling in a more directed and on-target manner.
The Jakarta East City Government is also optimistic that through cross-sector collaboration and sustainable programme innovations, stunting rates in its area can be significantly reduced, while improving the quality of future generations.
“I urge all participants to collaboratively share roles in resolving stunting. Hopefully, stunting rates continue to decline from year to year,” he said.
Previously, the Jakarta East City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) together with related agencies focused on handling 83 children indicated as stunting in Cipayung Sub-district.
Of the 83 children indicated as stunting, 10 children suffered from severe malnutrition and 73 other children had issues with malnutrition.
Strict supervision is carried out on children indicated as stunting, especially in the Supplementary Feeding (PMT) conducted for three months.
The Jakarta East Health Sub-Department (Sudinkes) recorded stunting data in Jakarta East in early 2025 at 812 cases, with details of very short stunting cases at 268 people, while short status at 544 people.
The sub-district with the highest number is Cakung with 147 people, Kramat Jati 102 people, Matraman 100 people, Cipayung 95 people, Ciracas 82 people, Duren Sawit and Jatinegara each 69 people, Pulogadung 57 people, Pasar Rebo 53 people, and Makasar 38 people.
