Jakarta East City Government Routinely Cracks Down on Illegal Parking on Matraman Raya Street
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta East Transportation Sub-Department routinely conducts enforcement against illegal parking along Matraman Raya Street, particularly in the area in front of the East Jakarta Metro Police Station. “In front of the police station, it is still being enforced. We collaborate with the Propam of the Police Station. Every morning, we have deployments along Matraman Street,” said the Head of the Operations Section of the Jakarta East Transportation Sub-Department, Emiral August Dwinanto, when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. The enforcement is carried out routinely every day to reduce congestion and restore the road’s function for vehicle users and pedestrians. “We station personnel in that area to conduct surveillance and take action against vehicles parked haphazardly,” said Emiral. According to him, the enforcement measures are carried out consistently because the Matraman Raya Street area is one of the densely trafficked routes in East Jakarta. The presence of parked vehicles on the road body is considered to severely disrupt traffic flow and narrow the space for passing vehicles. In the routine operations, officers take firm action against vehicles violating parking rules. Several vehicles found parked in prohibited areas are immediately acted upon by deflating tyres up to towing. “There are some vehicles that are deflated, there are also those that are towed and taken to the Sub-Department. Well, the towed ones are also fined by the police,” said Emiral. In the video, half of Matraman Raya Street’s body is seen being used as a parking area, from in front of the Jakarta East Health Sub-Department building to the Jatinegara Market area. This condition causes the road to narrow and triggers a slowdown in vehicle flow. Not only private vehicles, but several police station assets such as boats are also seen parked on the pavement, thus disturbing pedestrian activities. “Parking in front of the East Jakarta Police Station and surroundings makes the roads narrow, hinders residents’ traffic flow, try reporting directly and the response is very passive,” wrote the account in its post. In response to public complaints, the Jakarta East City Government immediately strengthened surveillance at the location. Vehicles and boats that previously filled the pavements and road body are no longer visible. In addition to conducting enforcement, officers also installed road barriers in front of the East Jakarta Metro Police Station to prevent vehicles from parking haphazardly again in that location.
