Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta East City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) is pushing for the acceleration of repairs to damaged and potholed roads, particularly in the Condet area, following infrastructure digging works by PAM Jaya.

“Roads in East Jakarta that are generally potholed have been instructed through the respective district teams. We have formed a team to immediately carry out patching,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin in Pulo Gebang, East Jakarta, on Monday.

According to him, the digging in Condet has also impacted road conditions and the safety of users.

The Jakarta East City Government has instructed its district-level apparatus to act quickly in handling road damage through temporary patching to minimise the risk of accidents that often occur due to potholed roads.

However, Munjirin acknowledged that this temporary repair is not a long-term solution.

Road patching only lasts for a short time, and in some cases, only two to three days before it deteriorates again due to traffic loads and field conditions.

“Indeed, it doesn’t last long, at most two to three days. Therefore, it must be continuously monitored and repatched,” said Munjirin.

Digging activities for the installation or repair of clean water networks disrupt the road surface and create potholes that pose a danger to drivers.

The Jakarta East City Government is also intensively coordinating with various related parties, including PAM Jaya, to ensure that the work process runs according to standard operating procedures (SOP) and pays attention to public safety aspects.

“Specifically for Condet, there is indeed work by PAM Jaya. This has been coordinated with stakeholders, including PAM Jaya, to be carried out in accordance with the applicable SOP,” explained Munjirin.

During the work process, he said, the public is forced to face disruptions, both in terms of comfort and driving safety.

Nevertheless, Munjirin hopes that the project can be completed soon so that road conditions can return to normal.

“When the work is ongoing, there are certainly disruptions for the public. But we hope this can be completed soon by PAM Jaya,” said Munjirin.

To this end, the Jakarta East City Government continues to supervise the post-project road repair process to ensure that the work results meet standards and do not harm the public.

With cross-agency coordination and the acceleration of project completion, it is hoped that road conditions in Condet and other areas in East Jakarta can improve soon and the potential for traffic accidents can be reduced.

Previously, residents around Jalan Raya Condet, East Jakarta, complained about the frequent accidents due to holes from digging at several points on the road. This condition is considered dangerous for road users, especially motorbike riders.

One local resident, Wahyu (28), said accidents have occurred repeatedly, even up to four times, with the most recent incident being quite severe.

“Accidents are frequent, but the road isn’t fixed until the last one went viral and then it was patched. That also won’t last long, just watch,” said Wahyu in Jakarta on Friday (27/3).
