Jakarta East City Government Cracks Down on Illegal Parking Causing Congestion in Cawang
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta East City Government (Pemkot Jaktim), through the Transportation Sub-Department, has cracked down on illegal parking that triggers congestion on Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo, Cawang Ward, Kramat Jati Sub-District, East Jakarta. “This handling step is being taken in response to public complaints about congestion caused by illegal parking, which commonly occurs at night,” said Head of the Jakarta East Transportation Sub-Department, Harlem Simanjuntak, in Jakarta on Friday. In addition, business activities that illegally utilise the road shoulder have also received special attention from cross-sectoral Regional Apparatus Units (UPD) within the Pemkot Jaktim environment. “The situation is caused by the high activity of coffee shop visitors who park their vehicles beyond the designated limits, even encroaching on the main roadway,” Harlem explained. He stated that his side has taken action against the parking attendants at the location. The enforcement was carried out in the form of guidance so that they no longer violate the agreed parking rules. “So, the business owners are violating the agreement not to place tables on the road shoulder or exceed the designated parking boundaries,” said Harlem. Furthermore, he emphasised that if similar violations occur again, his side will not hesitate to take firm action. The sanctions prepared include crackdowns up to the revocation of assignment letters for parking attendants proven to violate the rules. This effort is expected to maintain smooth vehicle flow, especially during busy night hours. “So, we give warnings to business owners and guidance to parking attendants. We also deploy officers to monitor and control congestion,” Harlem stressed. On the other hand, the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of the Jakarta East Administrative City has also played a role in maintaining order in the area. Head of Operations Section of Jakarta East Satpol PP, Charles Siahaan, said that his side has deployed personnel to ensure that business actors do not violate the rules again. Satpol PP officers also gave firm reminders to business owners not to place tables and chairs on the road shoulder, and to ensure that visitors do not park their vehicles beyond the designated limits. “We have also given directions to business owners not to place tables and chairs for customers on the road shoulder again; officers have been deployed to assist in the crackdown,” Charles revealed. Through this cross-agency synergy, the Jakarta East City Government hopes that congestion on Jalan Mayjen Sutoyo can be minimised, while creating general order and comfort for road users.
