Jakarta East City Government Continues Free Emissions Testing to Support Blue Sky Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta East City Government, through the Environmental Sub-Department, is committed to continuing the free emissions testing programme for motor vehicles as an effort to support air pollution control and the blue sky programme in the capital. “This emissions testing is for controlling air pollution in East Jakarta. The programme is ongoing every year and is carried out with rotating locations,” said the Head of the East Jakarta Environmental Sub-Department, Monang Sinaga, in Jakarta on Wednesday. Monang stated that they had held a free emissions testing activity for motor vehicles in the courtyard of the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office. This activity is part of the ongoing programme to control air pollution. A total of 103 vehicles participated in the emissions testing during the event, consisting of 45 motorcycles and 58 cars. Of the tested cars, 43 were petrol-fuelled and 15 were diesel-fuelled. This emissions testing activity targets not only private vehicles but also official vehicles operating in the East Jakarta City Government environment. Monang mentioned that the implementation pattern of emissions testing is no longer centralised in one location but uses a door-to-door system. This is done so that the service is more easily accessible to the public and the coverage of inspected vehicles is wider. In 2026, Monang said, they target at least 1,200 vehicles to participate in the free emissions testing. To achieve this target, the activities will be carried out routinely every two months with rotating locations, from government offices, sub-districts, to sports venues. “We will continue to conduct emissions testing periodically. The locations will rotate so that the public can more easily access this service,” said Monang. In addition, Monang also urged the public to be more concerned about the condition of their respective vehicles. He emphasised the importance of routine maintenance and selecting fuel appropriate to the vehicle’s specifications to reduce exhaust emissions. “Pay attention to your vehicle’s emissions and choose fuel according to the vehicle’s condition to support Jakarta’s blue sky programme and keep air quality clean,” said Monang. Monang hopes that this free emissions testing programme will become a sustainable step in reducing air pollution levels in East Jakarta, while also increasing public awareness of the importance of motor vehicle maintenance for better air quality in the future.
