INFO TEMPO - The Jakarta DPRD is reinforcing its commitment to maintaining food price stability through the drafting of a responsive and community-focused regional regulation. The primary focus of this regulation is directed towards strengthening distribution systems, monitoring supply chains, and enhancing cooperation between supplying regions, ensuring the continued availability of essential food items at affordable prices.

During the drafting process, the Jakarta DPRD emphasised the importance of collaboration between regional governments, regional-owned food enterprises (BUMD), businesses, and farmer groups to create a transparent and efficient trading system. In addition, the regulation also aims to strengthen regional food reserves, optimise traditional markets, and utilise information technology in real-time price monitoring.

Through this initiative, the Jakarta DPRD hopes to maintain price stability, control inflation, and strengthen the purchasing power of the community. This will ensure that food security in the capital city is stronger and more sustainable.

The Chairman of the Regional Regulation Drafting Body (Bapemperda) of the Jakarta DPRD, Abdul Aziz, affirmed the importance of drafting a Regional Regulation (Ranperda) on the Organisation of the Food System for the people of Jakarta. According to him, this regulation will provide significant benefits as it addresses fundamental aspects of citizens’ lives, particularly regarding the availability and affordability of food.

“Firstly, it concerns the availability of food, then the affordability of food, and also how this food should be managed, so that the remaining food does not end up being wasted in the Jakarta community,” said Aziz after a meeting with the executive branch at the Jakarta DPRD Building, Tuesday, 23 February 2026.

The Jakarta DPRD is particularly focused on optimally managing food waste and loss, both from the food industry, restaurants, hotels, and cafes. This is because good management can increase efficiency and prevent waste. Therefore, a well-planned strategy is needed to maintain adequate food stocks, especially in the lead-up to periods that trigger price increases.

The Head of the Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) of the Jakarta Regional Government, Hasudungan Sidabalok, stated that he would follow up on the various inputs from the meeting. The aim is to ensure that the Organisation of the Food System becomes a good regional regulation, a perfect Perda. “It can be implemented and benefit the community,” said Hasudungan.
