Jakarta DPRD opens opportunities for cooperation with Guangzhou
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta DPRD is opening opportunities for cooperation with Guangzhou, particularly in the fields of women’s empowerment and strengthening social regulations.
This was conveyed by Deputy Chair of the Jakarta DPRD, Rany Mauliani, during a meeting with the delegation from the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government at the Jakarta DPRD Building on Wednesday.
“This initial meeting opens up collaboration opportunities because there are many things that can be learned, especially social policies and women’s empowerment,” said Rany at the Jakarta DPRD Building on Wednesday.
She stated that in the meeting, one issue was discussed in depth, namely women’s representation in parliament.
She assessed that Guangzhou’s achievement of 35.5 per cent surpasses the minimum target of 30 per cent that also applies in Indonesia. Meanwhile, in Jakarta, this figure has not yet been achieved.
According to Rany, women’s representation is important to drive inclusive policies.
“The balance between women and men impacts the protection of women, children, and the disabled,” said Rany.
In addition, she said, concrete regulations are also needed for people with disabilities, including work quotas so that people with disabilities can be absorbed by 1-2 per cent in the public and private sectors.
She added that regarding social issues, the meeting with the Guangzhou delegation discussed urban planning and tourism, considering that Guangzhou City is able to attract tourists through aesthetic spatial arrangements and city icons.
“Good urban planning becomes a tourist attraction. It is hoped that this experience exchange will serve as a reference for Jakarta to improve social policies and urban planning. Hopefully, it can encourage Jakarta to become a better city,” Rany stated.
