Jakarta DPRD Member Calls for Strict Data Collection on New Arrivals, Requiring Clear Identity and Purpose
JAKARTA - A member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Kevin Wu, has called on the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to tighten data collection on new arrivals following the 2026 Lebaran holiday. He stressed that every migrant entering the capital must have a clear identity and a definite purpose. “We urge the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to take firmer steps,” Kevin stated in his official remarks on Friday (27/3/2026). “Tighten data collection on new arrivals through the Civil Registry Office down to the neighbourhood level, and ensure that every migrant has a clear identity, a definite purpose, and decent accommodation,” he continued. He reminded that without strict supervision, the flow of migrants could increase population density and worsen the employment situation in Jakarta. According to Kevin, many migrants arrive without skills and job certainty, thus risking an increase in unemployment rates and triggering social problems. “Many migrants come without skills and without job certainty. In the end, this adds to unemployment figures, triggers social problems, and increases the burden on public facilities,” he explained. “Jakarta cannot close itself off, but it also cannot be too lax without control,” he said. The DKI DPRD also encourages the Provincial Government to strengthen job creation programmes and skills training for Jakarta residents to enable them to compete. Kevin warned that the post-Lebaran surge in migrants could become a long-term issue if not managed properly. “If not managed seriously, this phenomenon could become a social time bomb. Therefore, the approach cannot be merely administrative, but must be strategic and pro-people,” he stated.
