The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has reminded the public to increase vigilance against the potential for ground movement or landslides, particularly during periods of high rainfall in May 2026. BPBD emphasised that prevention efforts are the most critical step in reducing disaster risks, rather than waiting for emergency conditions to arise.

“In the Medium Zone, the potential for ground movement increases significantly if rainfall is above normal—especially in areas directly bordering river valleys, cliffs, and slopes,” stated the official BPBD DKI Jakarta account on Monday (18/5/2026).

Based on mapping results, several areas within DKI Jakarta have been categorised within the Medium Zone for potential ground movement, specifically in the Administrative Cities of South Jakarta and East Jakarta. Consequently, sub-district heads (Lurah) and district heads (Camat) in these vulnerable areas have been requested to increase their state of readiness. This appeal was issued as an early anticipatory measure so that the community does not wait for final instructions, recognising that self-evacuation can be a vital factor in saving lives.
