Jakarta DPRD Deputy Speaker Wibi Andrino has welcomed the Jakarta Provincial Government’s plan to transfer management of transport to the Thousand Islands from the Transportation Agency to Transjakarta. He urged that fares to the Thousand Islands be made more affordable.

“This is certainly very encouraging. We have long hoped that our brothers and sisters in the Thousand Islands could enjoy cheap transport modes like Transjakarta, with fares of around Rp 3,500, to help residents’ mobility between islands,” Wibi told reporters on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

Wibi encouraged a study of a Transjakarta Laut service with cheap and affordable fares for the public. According to him, sea transport with affordable fares would not only help residents’ daily activities but could also strengthen inter-regional connectivity and support growth in the tourism sector in the Thousand Islands.

“The study of the Transjakarta Laut service will later not only pay attention to connectivity towards mainland Jakarta, but also the need for mobility between island regions. With affordable fares, sea transport is expected to become part of Jakarta’s integrated public transport system,” he said.

According to Wibi, the provision of affordable public transport for Thousand Islands residents is part of efforts to deliver equality of service for all Jakarta residents. He hopes the plan for Transjakarta services to the Thousand Islands can be translated into a concrete scheme capable of answering the community’s needs.

“How do we build awareness to make Jakarta residents good citizens, understanding their rights and obligations. Residents living in island areas have the same right to access safe, affordable public transport that is easily connected to activity centres in Jakarta,” he added.

Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung planned to transfer management of transport to the Thousand Islands from the Transportation Agency to Transjakarta. He wants all Jakarta residents to feel the ease of using public transport.

“So I have decided that starting next year, from all cities and regencies in Jakarta wanting to go to the Thousand Islands, transport must be easier and more efficient, and the Thousand Islands must feel ownership and become part of it,” Pramono said when launching the Jakarta Transportation Agency Call Centre 1500813 service at the HI Roundabout, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (9/8).

“Therefore, its management will no longer be handled by the Transportation Agency — even though we have a good, progressive head of the Transportation Agency — but will be given to a regional-owned enterprise, in this case Transjakarta,” he added.

He hopes Thousand Islands residents will find it easier to obtain transport. Thus, they can easily travel back and forth between islands or to mainland Jakarta.
