Jakarta Deputy Governor to Summon Education Agency After Primary School Collapse
Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno will summon all ranks of the DKI Jakarta Education Agency to discuss the condition of damaged schools in the capital. The move follows the collapse of a state primary school building in Kebayoran Lama, which has drawn public attention.
This was revealed by Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung during a press conference for Jakarta Budget Talks: Navigating the Jakarta APBD: Strengthening Performance, Safeguarding Public Interest at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.
‘In fact, tomorrow the Deputy Governor told me he will gather the entire Education Agency regarding this matter,’ Pramono said.
Pramono admitted he was initially unaware of the condition of SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 when first asked by journalists. After studying the issue, he immediately held a special meeting and inspected the school site.
‘I truly did not know when I was first asked. Once I found out, yesterday we immediately held a special meeting about this,’ he stated.
According to Pramono, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will not cover up the issue of damaged schools. He stressed that all findings will be handled openly so that solutions can be found promptly.
‘For Jakarta, this must be handled properly, but we do not need to cover it up. It must be open as it is,’ he said.
Pramono confirmed that the state primary school building in Kebayoran Lama will be rebuilt immediately. If the regional budget is not yet available, the DKI Provincial Government will open other funding options, such as floor area ratio compensation funds or corporate social responsibility.
‘I have decided that the primary school in Kebayoran Lama must be rebuilt immediately. If the APBD funds are not yet available, then we will open up options, whether from KLB, CSR, or any other source, as long as it is built immediately,’ he said.
He also stressed that the handling will not be limited to SDN Kebayoran Lama. According to him, all schools on the damage list will be prioritised for repair.
‘Not only the one that went viral, but the other 22 will also be resolved immediately. That is the main point,’ he concluded.
