Pramono said the Jakarta administration would work closely with law enforcement and the Indonesian military to maintain security across the capital during the annual celebration marking the end of the Muslim fasting month.

“Security arrangements will be coordinated with the police and the military to safeguard Jakarta,” Pramono told reporters after opening the Bedug Festival at the Taman Ismail Marzuki cultural center in Central Jakarta.

He said he remained optimistic that security would remain under control during takbiran night and throughout the Eid al-Fitr holiday period, despite preparations for heightened security measures.

According to Pramono, securing takbiran night celebrations was not new for authorities as the event takes place annually and has long been part of Jakarta’s routine public security planning.

With years of experience managing large crowds and festivities, the city administration and security forces have developed established security procedures to anticipate various potential disturbances or public safety risks.

“I believe everything will remain safe because this has become a recurring event every year,” he said, expressing confidence in the preparedness of authorities overseeing the celebrations.

Pramono also addressed the surge in public mobility during the Eid holiday season, when millions of Indonesians travel to their hometowns in the annual tradition known as mudik.

He said the movement of residents returning to Jakarta after celebrating Eid with families in other regions was also an important moment for the capital’s administration.

The Jakarta government welcomed the seasonal travel and hoped residents could undertake their journeys safely and comfortably during the busy holiday period.

“Returning to Jakarta is an important moment for the Jakarta administration. We wish everyone a pleasant journey back to the capital,” Pramono said.

He added that close coordination among government institutions and security personnel would help ensure takbiran night and the Eid celebrations proceeded safely, orderly and peacefully for residents.

Earlier, Pramono urged Jakarta residents planning to travel for the Eid holidays to report their departures to neighborhood community leaders before leaving their homes.

“We ask residents traveling for the holidays to inform their neighborhood heads so their homes are not left unattended without notice,” he said.

The measure aims to reduce the risk of crimes such as burglary at houses left empty while residents travel to celebrate Eid with their families outside the capital.
