Jakarta Democrats Kick-Start Their Political Machinery for 2029, Starting Now

Jakarta, Kompas.com – The Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the Democratic Party in Jakarta’s Special Capital Region (DKI Jakarta) has begun heating up its political machinery ahead of the 2029 electoral year. One step being taken is to strengthen the electoral district bases (dapil) through internal consolidation. “Consolidation does not always come through discussion. Gathering together and maintaining togetherness are also part of consolidation, especially during Ramadan,” said Mujiyono, head of the DPD Demokrat Jakarta, at Gedung Gorga 2, Pondok Bambu, East Jakarta, Saturday (8 March 2026), cited from Antara. However, for now they are focusing on strengthening the organisation at the electoral district level. Mujiyono said internal preparations have been under way from early on, with more than 1,000 polling station witnesses (TPS) prepared. The preparations are being carried out in the five East Jakarta electoral districts to safeguard the on-the-ground democratic process. “Additionally, there are 872 regional coordinator teams and team coordinators to maintain solidarity,” Mujiyono said. But that number is still far from the target to be achieved ahead of 2029. Mujiyono said they target at least around 9,000 personnel from the volunteer network and witnesses across East Jakarta’s various areas that form its dapil base. The agenda is part of a comprehensive consolidation effort led by the party’s structures down to the grassroots level. The party has implemented the ‘Demokrat Jakarta Sambut Ramadan’ programme, focusing on social activities in local communities. Mujiyono emphasised that the activities are carried out simply and simultaneously across all Jakarta areas, underpinned by a spirit of service to the community. ‘We don’t need to count in terms of electability. What’s important is to sincerely help the community. God willing, this will be good deeds and bring benefits to the people,’ Mujiyono said.
