Jakarta Customs Destroys Illegal Cigarettes and Alcohol Worth Rp20.18 Billion

The Jakarta Regional Office of Customs and Excise has destroyed illegal excisable goods, including cigarettes and alcoholic beverages, worth Rp20.18 billion, seized during Operation Asap and Operation Macan Kemayoran from 2025 to July 2026.

Head of the Jakarta Regional Office of Customs and Excise, Hendri Darnadi, said the destroyed goods consisted of 12,979,847 sticks and 28,263.7 grams of illegal tobacco products, as well as 1,506 bottles or 901.93 litres of beverages containing ethyl alcohol.

He added that the destruction was a form of accountability for the enforcement results and an effort to protect the public from the circulation of illegal goods.

“Operations against illegal excisable goods are a tangible manifestation of the shared commitment of law enforcement officials to carry out the function of public protection, particularly in the Jakarta area and its surroundings,” Hendri said in a statement on Thursday (20/8).

From the enforcement actions, the state is estimated to have suffered potential losses of Rp11.81 billion.

Hendri said the circulation of illegal excisable goods is not only a law enforcement issue but also has the potential to suppress state revenue and disrupt fair business competition.

He said Jakarta Customs will continue to strengthen synergy with law enforcement officials and related agencies to prevent the circulation of illegal excisable goods.

“This step is important to safeguard state revenue and create a healthier business climate for business actors who fulfil their obligations,” he said.

The destruction was carried out through cooperation between Customs and Excise and the Jakarta Special Region High Prosecutor’s Office, the Military Police of the Jayakarta Regional Military Command, the Jakarta Provincial Civil Service Police Unit, and the Directorate General of State Assets of the Ministry of Finance.

The seized goods had been designated as State-Owned Goods through 99 State-Owned Goods Decrees and obtained approval for destruction.

In addition to the potential state loss of Rp11.81 billion, some cases have also been resolved through the ultimum remedium mechanism. From this resolution, the state obtained revenue of Rp1.09 billion.
