Jakarta councillors opportunists
Jakarta councillors opportunists
From Republika
It is really alarming to learn that honorable members of the
City Council have demanded that more should be given to them,
despite all the facilities that they enjoy.
I felt ashamed when I read a media report on this matter. As a
member of a chapter of a political party in the category of the
big three after the election, I am sad to learn that these
councillors, who have fought hard to ensure that they get a place
in the regional council in the hope that they can fight for the
interest of the people, have instead tried to rake in as much
money as they can from the people for their own benefit. It is
ironical indeed.
Although the vehicles the governor has given them for their
official use do not become the councillors' private property, the
governor -- a faint-hearted governor -- must spend billions of
rupiah, an amount which could actually be spent on the economic
development of the lower-classes. This policy must be reviewed.
I demand that the people's money be returned so that it can be
spent on useful activities.
