Jakarta Council Questions Proposed Fares for Transjakarta and Mikrotrans

The Jakarta Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) has responded to a proposal from the Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) to adjust fares for Transjakarta and Mikrotrans services. Council member Taufik urged a review of the suggested Rp2,000 fare for Mikrotrans, which is currently free, arguing it could discourage people from switching from private vehicles, especially motorcycles. He also called for a meeting with the regional-owned enterprise, Transjakarta, and the Transportation Agency to discuss the matter.

The DTKJ had proposed the fare adjustments, including a single in-city Transjakarta fare of Rp5,000, a Transjabodetabek fare of Rp10,000, and a monthly subscription scheme of Rp200,000. DTKJ Chair Sugihardjo argued that introducing a Rp2,000 fare for Mikrotrans would help minimise potential fraud by drivers who might manipulate passenger data to meet targets, a practice known as fictitious tapping.

Regarding the proposed Transjabodetabek fare increase to Rp10,000, Taufik expressed concern that it would burden consumers and could reverse the shift from private to public transport. He suggested a lower fare of Rp7,500 and urged the Jakarta administration to coordinate with neighbouring regional governments to discuss the fare adjustment.
