Jakarta Council Proposes AI-Powered Parking Surveillance to Prevent Revenue Leakage
The proposal was put forward by the DPRD DKI Jakarta’s Special Committee on Parking Governance following a working visit to the Jakarta Transportation Agency’s Data and Information Centre. Committee Chairman Ahmad Lukman Jupiter stated that while the agency has begun implementing digital payment systems, the current process still depends on parking attendants manually operating applications on their mobile phones. This, he noted, leaves room for cash transactions that go unrecorded.
Jupiter emphasised that integrating artificial intelligence with existing CCTV and electronic automatic identification systems would allow the government to automatically count vehicles entering and exiting parking locations. The data could then be cross-checked in real time against electronic payment records, enabling immediate detection of discrepancies or potential fraud. He stressed that such a system would not only optimise regional revenue from the parking sector but also modernise public services.
The committee urged the Jakarta administration to build an integrated parking ecosystem that combines licensing data, operational oversight, electronic transactions, and AI-based surveillance into a single interconnected platform. Jupiter concluded that every rupiah of public money must be managed transparently, and that technology should serve as an instrument to eliminate revenue leakage while delivering orderly, modern, and trustworthy parking services to the public.
