Jakarta Continues RPTRA Construction to Realise Child-Friendly City

The Jakarta provincial government will continue the construction of child-friendly integrated public spaces (RPTRA) in the capital as a commitment to providing safe and comfortable play areas for children. “For RPTRA in Jakarta, the latest count is that we have built 324 RPTRA. So, we will continue the construction of RPTRA,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo at City Hall on Monday. He did not specify the number of RPTRA to be built this year, but emphasised that the current development concept is no longer large-scale. According to Pramono, RPTRA can be built on small plots of land. He believes that as a child-friendly global city, Jakarta must have many children’s play spaces, making the city greener, safer, and more comfortable for everyone, including children. Previously, the Jakarta Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) planned to increase the number of RPTRA to make them more accessible to the public. Head of the Jakarta PPAPP Agency Dwi Oktavia stated that the 324 RPTRA in Jakarta are spread across 44 sub-districts and 173 urban villages. This number has exceeded the initial target of 267. Of the total, 253 RPTRA were built using the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD), while 71 RPTRA were built using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.
