Jakarta Connectivity Exceeds 90 Per Cent, but Public Transport Usage Remains Low: Governor Pramono
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that connectivity in Jakarta has now reached 93 per cent. However, he noted that consistent utilisation of this connectivity by residents is still not optimal. “Connectivity in Jakarta has actually reached more than 93 per cent, but the number of people who consistently use public transport is still below 30 per cent,” Pramono said when met in Jakarta on Friday (5/6). He therefore aims for more than 30 per cent of Jakarta’s residents to utilise public transport by next year, believing this will significantly reduce congestion. “I am targeting above 30 per cent next year if possible. With this, it will certainly reduce congestion in Jakarta significantly because people will be willing to shift from their habits and culture of using private vehicles to public transport. And those facilities are now relatively more complete and ready,” Pramono said. He added that Jakarta is also currently preparing public transport links from Cikarang to Jakarta and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Jakarta. “Hopefully this will encourage the approximately 4 million people who use private vehicles every morning to switch to public transport,” he said.
