Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) temporarily halted trading at 09:00 Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS) time after the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) fell by 8%.

At the opening of trading at the IDX in Jakarta on Thursday (16 October), the JCI dropped 469.86 points, or 8.01%, to 5,393.92. The LQ45 index, which tracks 45 leading shares, fell 49.14 points, or 8.33%, to 540.95.

Trading was due to resume at around 09:30 JATS time, with no change to the trading schedule.

The current trading-halt rules are as follows. If the JCI declines during the same exchange trading day, the exchange will take these measures:

  • A 30-minute trading halt if the JCI falls by more than 8%.

  • A further 30-minute trading halt if the JCI continues to fall by more than 15%.

  • A trading suspension if the JCI continues to fall by more than 20%. The suspension will last until the end of the trading session, or for more than one trading session with approval or an order from the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

The adjustments to the trading-halt rules are intended to give investors greater room to manage liquidity and determine their investment strategies in light of available information.

The rules are set out in IDX Board of Directors Decrees dated 8 April 2025: No. Kep-00002/BEI/04-2025, on amendments to the Guidelines for Handling the Continuity of Trading on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in Emergency Conditions; and No. Kep-00003/BEI/04-2025, concerning Regulation II-A on Trading in Equity Securities.
