The Jakarta Commuter Rail network will be extended from Jakarta to Cikampek and Sukabumi by 2026.

“This year, we will expand the Jakarta Commuter Rail to Cikampek, Jakarta to Sukabumi, and Jakarta to Rangkas,” said Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara Indonesia), Dony Oskaria, during the “Danantara: Driving the Giants, Igniting the Indonesian Economic Engine” event held in Jakarta, as quoted by Antara (January 28, 2026).

Oskaria stated that this initiative is part of an effort to revitalize economic centers along the railway lines.

To realize this plan, Danantara requires PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to immediately complete the electrification of railway lines in five major cities.

Notably, this development will not rely on imported products.

Oskaria requires KAI to collaborate with PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) in developing the railway line electrification.

Furthermore, Danantara is also working to improve the internal operations of PT INKA, which is scheduled to be completed early this year.

Industrial integration is also being strengthened with the construction of upstream facilities in Banyuwangi, connecting INKA with Krakatau Steel, to ensure the availability of local steel.

Prabowo has requested that PT KAI complete the addition of 30 railway extension points and the procurement of new train sets within a maximum period of one year.

The development of the Jakarta-Cikampek and Jakarta-Sukabumi Commuter Rail is expected to be an effective solution to reduce traffic congestion and shorten travel time for commuters living in the Jakarta metropolitan area.
