Jakarta Civil Servants Banned from Working from Cafes During WFH

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has banned civil servants (ASN) from working from cafes or public places while implementing the work-from-home (WFH) policy every Friday.

“Regarding working from cafes or anywhere else, if that happens, there will certainly be firm sanction actions for it,” Pramono stated at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

He emphasised that the implementation of WFH does not mean freedom to work from any location. Therefore, ASN are required to continue working from home in accordance with the applicable provisions.

Pramono also assured that there will be firm sanctions for ASN who violate the rule. However, he did not explain in detail what sanctions will be given to ASN who violate it.

“Basically sanctions, if previously they were guided, now they will be destroyed,” Pramono said.

In its implementation, ASN are still required to carry out mobile attendance and be under the supervision of the Regional Personnel Agency (BKD).

Previously, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto revealed the reason for choosing Friday as the work-from-home day for ASN.

Friday was chosen because work activities tend to be relatively lighter compared to other working days. According to him, the busyness level on that day is not as high as on regular days, even in many agencies it only runs about half of the daily workload.

In addition, the selection of Friday as the WFH day also follows the practice of several ministries that have previously implemented a four-day workweek pattern with digital system support, especially post-COVID-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, Airlangga ensured that the public services sector and strategic sectors will continue to operate normally as usual.
