Heavy traffic congestion from the Lebaran exodus has been recorded on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road (Japek) heading towards Cikampek on the morning of Wednesday, 18 March (H-3 Lebaran).

Monitoring by CNNIndonesia.com detected congestion beginning at KM 15, with the toll road packed with private vehicles, buses and trucks. Due to the congestion, vehicles passing through could only travel slowly. Congestion in the traffic flow continued through to KM 22.

The peak of the Lebaran exodus is expected to occur on Wednesday, with the National Police’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas) planning to implement a nationwide one-way traffic system on that day.

“I have coordinated with the Minister and the General Director of Jasa Marga that the peak of the Lebaran exodus is estimated to be on 18 March. So on 18 March between 10 am and 12 noon, we will implement the nationwide one-way exodus traffic system,” said National Police Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho at the Rest Area KM 57 A on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, West Java, on Monday evening, 16 March.

“When [based on] the infrastructure traffic accounting technology can be controlled, it is also possible that it could change to a nationwide one-way system or a one-way system in the first phase, which of course we will announce later,” he added.

Traffic congestion has also been recorded on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ) Toll Road this morning. The congestion has been caused by increased vehicle volumes due to the Nyepi holiday and the 2026 Lebaran exodus.

Based on Jasamarga’s X social media account on Wednesday, 18 March, traffic congestion on the MBZ toll has already occurred at West Bekasi KM 12–East Bekasi KM 16, and then Tambun KM 19–Cibitung KM 23 at 09:08 WIB.

“Cibitung KM 24–West Cikarang KM 30 congested with heavy traffic volumes. West Cikarang KM 31–Central Cikarang KM 37 congested with heavy traffic volumes,” Jasamarga stated.

Congestion on the MBZ toll has also been recorded at Central Cikarang KM 40–West Karawang KM 42 Cikampek due to heavy traffic volumes.
