Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police are intensifying patrols and crackdowns on the distribution of illegal drugs in the Tanah Abang area. “We routinely conduct patrols and enforcement as preventive measures and to enforce the law against the circulation of illegal drugs,” said Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police Chief Reynold EP Hutagalung in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to him, these patrols and actions are part of the police’s continuous steps to suppress the distribution of illegal drugs within their jurisdiction. In these nightly patrol activities, he said, combined personnel from the Narcotics Sub-Directorate of Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police and the Narcotics and Criminal Investigation Units of Tanah Abang Metropolitan Sub-District Police are deployed to sweep several vulnerable points. Meanwhile, the Head of the Narcotics Sub-Directorate of Jakarta Central Metropolitan Police, AKBP Wisnu S Kuncoro, stated that the patrols are conducted mobilely, targeting locations deemed prone to illegal drug distribution. “We conduct our patrols intensively, targeting points that have the potential to become locations for illegal drug circulation. We also conduct checks on suspicious individuals,” said Wisnu. He assured that these patrol and enforcement activities are continuously enhanced to keep the regional situation conducive. Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of public involvement in assisting the police in monitoring the environment for potential illegal drug distribution. “There needs to be collaboration between the community and the police so that the circulation of illegal drugs can be prevented from the outset,” Wisnu revealed.
