Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Central Police (Jakpus) have arrested a man, identified as IO (33), who is suspected of being a drug courier. The police seized 510.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine during the arrest in the Pasar Rebo area of East Jakarta.

“This successful operation is the result of swift action by our officers after receiving information from the public regarding suspicious activity related to drugs,” said the Chief of the Jakarta Central Police, Commissioner Reynold Hutagalung, in Jakarta on Thursday.

He stated that the disclosure of this case is a form of the police’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in the jurisdiction of Central Jakarta.

According to him, the arrest was made on May 3, 2026, at around 01:30 WIB at a house in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.

During the search, police found a can of biscuits containing five large plastic bags of crystal methamphetamine, with a total gross weight of 510.3 grams, or half a kilogram.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Narcotics Unit of the Jakarta Central Police, AKBP Wisnu S Kuncoro, said that the suspect, IO, admitted that he was only tasked with picking up and delivering the crystal methamphetamine packages on the orders of a person with the initials NB.

“The suspect received the package, which was sent via an online motorcycle taxi service. After receiving the goods, the suspect was instructed to hand over the package to a person with the initials FN. However, before he could hand it over, the suspect was arrested by officers,” said Wisnu.

In addition to arresting the courier and seizing the crystal methamphetamine, the police also seized a mobile phone belonging to the suspect for the purposes of the investigation.

Currently, the Narcotics Unit of the Jakarta Central Police is continuing to investigate to uncover the drug trafficking network.

“We are still pursuing other parties who are suspected of being involved, including NB and FN. We also urge the public not to hesitate to report if they know of any drug abuse or trafficking in their area,” said Wisnu.

The suspect is being charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Amendments to Criminal Law.
