Jakarta – The Jakarta Central Municipality (Pemkot) demolished 31 illegal structures comprising kiosks and food stalls located on Jalan Kebon Kacang 30, Tanah Abang, on Tuesday.

“The demolition was publicised from last week, so the traders already knew they were not allowed to return and sell at the location behind Plaza Indonesia,” said Tanah Abang District Head Dwiarti Indriani Utami in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to her, the enforcement operation took place over two days from Monday (9 March) to Tuesday (10 March), targeting illegal structures consisting of kiosks and food stalls along Jalan Kebon Kacang 30.

She explained that all 31 demolished illegal buildings were constructed on pavements, thereby obstructing pedestrian access and public order.

Additionally, Jakarta Central Municipality also regulated illegal parking along Jalan Kebon Kacang 30, despite the parking operators’ previous refusal to comply with enforcement.

“Indeed, the illegal parking attendants here are also local residents and neighbours. This is shock therapy for them, a surprise that they can no longer seek additional income,” she said.

She added that the enforcement action on Jalan Kebon Kacang 30 was a response to numerous public complaints regarding the chaotic condition of the road. Due to illegal structures and parking along the street, residents have difficulty passing through the road.
