The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) DKI Jakarta has adjusted the schedule for the Car Free Night, or motorised vehicle-free evening, during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 takbiran celebrations.

Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that the public space activity will be brought forward from the original schedule to ensure the comfort of the capital’s residents.

Originally, Car Free Night was scheduled to begin at 22:00 WIB (10pm), but has been changed to 20:00 WIB (8pm).

“Car Free Night will probably run from 8pm to 10pm. Previously we had planned to start at 10pm,” Rano said at the National Monument (Monas) area in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (17 March).

The decision to advance the Car Free Night operational hours was made after careful consideration regarding the urgency of worship obligations the following day.

The Jakarta Provincial Government does not want the takbiran evening celebrations, which extend late into the night, to disadvantage residents or disrupt the smooth preparation for Eid prayers.

“If we run until 10pm, it becomes too late until midnight, which would hinder preparations for the Eid prayer,” Rano explained.

Although the operation time has been finalised, the exact date of the event still depends on the Ministry of Religion’s official determination of 1 Syawal.

Rano emphasised that regardless of the central government’s decision, communal takbir celebrations in public spaces will continue to be facilitated with proportionate and orderly timing.

“We are waiting for the confirmation (Isbat). Our original plan was the 19th. However, the confirmation is not yet known. If it is postponed to the 20th, the communal takbir will still take place, but Car Free Night will run from 8pm to 10pm. Since the event lasts approximately two hours,” Rano explained.
