Jakarta Cancels Car Free Day on 14 June for BTN International Marathon

The Jakarta Provincial Government has cancelled the implementation of Car Free Day (CFD) in the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin and Jalan HR Rasuna Said areas on Sunday, 14 June. This policy was adopted to support the hosting of the BTN Jakarta International Marathon 202le, which will be held in the capital.

The Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, stated that the cancellation of CFD is necessary because parts of the roads usually used for the car-free initiative will serve as the track for the international marathon participants.

“In connection with the hosting of the BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2026 on Sunday, 14 June 2026, the implementation of Car Free Day on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin and Jalan HR Rasuna Said will be suspended,” said Budi on Wednesday.

According to him, the decision complies with the provisions in Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 12 of 2016 regarding the Implementation of Car Free Day. This regulation allows for the temporary suspension of CFD if there are national or international-scale events using the same road corridors.

Budi urged the public to adjust their sports schedules and weekend activities. Citizens are also asked to pay attention to the traffic engineering measures implemented during the BTN Jakarta International Marathon.

“We urge the public to observe the applicable traffic arrangements, obey signs and instructions from officers on the ground, and prioritise safety while engaging in activities on the road,” he said.

The Jakarta Provincial Government currently holds CFD in two main locations: the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor and Jalan HR Rasuna Said. Under normal operations, CFD in Sudirman-Thamrin runs from 05:30 WIB to 10:00 WIB, while CFD in Rasuna Said runs from 05:30 WIB to 09:00 WIB.

The government hopes the public will support the BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2026, which is one of the largest international sporting events in Jakarta and part of the effort to strengthen the city’s image as a sports and global destination.

The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, stated that the BTN Jakarta International Marathon continues to show significant development year after year, both in terms of scale and the quality of its organisation. He also noted that the implementation of Car Free Day in Jakarta is now attracting international tourists.
