Jakarta Cancels Car Free Day on 14 June for BTN International Marathon
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has cancelled the Car Free Day (HBKB) event in the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin and Jalan HR Rasuna Said areas on Sunday, 14 June. The policy was adopted to support the organisation of the BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2026, which will be held in the capital. Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, stated that the cancellation was implemented because part of the road sections usually used for HBKB will serve as the route for the international marathon participants. “In connection with the organisation of the BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2026 on Sunday, 14 June 2026, the Car Free Day (HBKB) on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-MH Thamrin and Jalan HR Rasuna Said is cancelled,” Budi said on Wednesday, 10 June. According to him, this decision is in accordance with the provisions of DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 12 of 2016 concerning the Implementation of Car Free Days. The regulation allows for the temporary suspension of CFD if there are national or international scale activities using the same road corridor. Budi urged the public to adjust their sports agendas and weekend activities. Residents were also asked to pay attention to the traffic engineering measures implemented during the BTN Jakarta International Marathon. “We urge the public to observe the applicable traffic arrangements, obey signs and directions from officers in the field, and continue to prioritise safety while on the road,” he said. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government currently holds CFD in two main locations, namely the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor and Jalan HR Rasuna Said. During normal operations, CFD on Sudirman-Thamrin takes place from 05:30 WIB to 10:00 WIB, while CFD on Rasuna Said takes place from 05:30 WIB to 09:00 WIB. The government hopes the public can support the implementation of the BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2026, which is one of the largest international sporting events in Jakarta and part of efforts to strengthen the city’s image as a sports destination and a global city.
