Jakarta Businessman Arrested After Shooting at Canggu Bar, Tests Positive for Drugs
The suspect, HSH (49), was apprehended after a brutal shooting at a bar in the Canggu tourist area of Bali. He appeared with his head bowed as officers escorted him to the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit before his case was presented to the media on Monday afternoon. The Jakarta-based businessman, who has thinning hair, was wearing an orange detainee shirt. He told investigators that he was driven to fire the weapon after becoming emotional while heavily intoxicated. The incident occurred at a bar on Jalan Pantai Berawa, North Kuta, Badung, on Friday. “The suspect’s motive was that he was in an emotional state and under the influence of alcohol. We also conducted a urine test on the suspect, which returned positive results for THC, MDMA, and amphetamine,” said Badung Police Chief AKBP Joseph Edward Purba during a press conference. HSH had become involved in an argument with another patron in the sofa area near the music stage. While heavily drunk, the verbal dispute quickly escalated, triggering a physical fight. “At the scene, the suspect got into an argument with another patron. During the argument, the suspect was provoked and his emotions were triggered, leading him to draw his weapon,” added Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Azarul Ahmad.
