Jakarta is increasingly asserting its position as one of Indonesia’s main centres of economic growth and investment. By the first half of 2026, investment realisation in Jakarta reached Rp173.6 trillion, or around 17.2 percent of total national investment realisation.

Minister for Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan P. Roeslani said Jakarta’s role is becoming more strategic as global investment trends shift towards sectors projected to underpin the future economy.

“The next stage of downstreaming is not only concerned with minerals and their processing, but extends to digital infrastructure, technology, innovation and industries that will determine future global growth. Jakarta has a very important role in this journey,” Rosan said last weekend.

Rosan explained that Jakarta’s contribution to the national economy is also reflected in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In the second quarter of 2026, Jakarta contributed around 16.3 percent to national GDP.

Meanwhile, Jakarta’s investment realisation throughout the first half of 2026 reached Rp173.6 trillion. This investment was supported by several key sectors.

The transport, warehousing and telecommunications sector was the largest contributor, with investment realisation reaching Rp54.4 trillion, or 31.3 percent of Jakarta’s total investment.

Next, the other services sector, which includes web hosting, data centres, web portals, hospitals and various other service activities, recorded investment of Rp43.6 trillion, or 25.1 percent.

The trade and repair sector contributed Rp28.4 trillion, or 16.4 percent. The housing and office sector contributed Rp14 trillion, or 8.1 percent, and construction contributed Rp12.9 trillion, or 7.4 percent.

Jakarta’s investment potential is also growing along with the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy.

Rosan said Indonesia’s digital economy is projected to reach USD 360 billion by 2030. This opens up significant investment opportunities in digital infrastructure, including the development of data centres and artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology.

“As one of the data centre development hubs in Indonesia, strengthening next-generation AI-based digital infrastructure is expected to further enhance Jakarta’s investment appeal,” he said.

In addition to being a centre of digital economic activity, Jakarta is also being prepared as the starting point for an international financial centre in Indonesia.

According to Rosan, the development of this function is expected to strengthen legal certainty while encouraging the adoption of business practices that meet international standards.

He noted that investor considerations have changed. The size of the domestic market and low production costs are no longer the only factors in determining investment locations.

Investors also consider economic and political stability, business certainty, strength of partnerships, reliability of infrastructure, and clarity of long-term development vision.

To maintain investment momentum, the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM continues to strengthen the investment climate through simplification and acceleration of licensing services.

The government is also working to improve legal and regulatory certainty and make business processes more predictable for investors.

In addition, BKPM is facilitating the resolution of various obstacles or debottlenecking faced by investment projects, including projects in Jakarta.

These efforts are carried out through coordination with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, relevant ministries/agencies and other stakeholders.

Rosan stressed that this collaboration is needed so that various investment commitments can immediately enter the implementation stage and provide benefits for the economy.

“We know that Jakarta contributes very significantly to total investment realisation in Indonesia, and if we look at it, Jakarta almost always ranks in the top five, and this semester it is ranked first,” Rosan said.

He said the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM will continue to collaborate with the Jakarta Government to ensure investment projects can be facilitated and run well.

“In essence, we thank and appreciate the Governor and his staff who have been very active in communicating, discussing and providing input so that we can always synergise to provide benefits to the entire community,” he concluded.
