Jakarta Bapenda Building Fire: Governor Pramono Assures Tax Data Is Safe
The Technical Office Building of the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) on Jalan Abdul Muis, Central Jakarta, caught fire on Friday evening (7/8/2026). Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung assured that the incident did not compromise the security of tax data or public services.
Pramono explained that the fire broke out around 9.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time and swept through the 11th to the 16th floors of the building, which houses several regional apparatus organisations. The fire was fully extinguished in the early hours of Saturday at around 2 a.m.
“Alhamdulillah, thanks to the swift and alert handling by the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service with 37 fire engines and 185 personnel, there have been no reported casualties so far,” Pramono said in a statement.
The building serves as the workplace for a number of agencies within the Jakarta Provincial Government, including Bapenda, the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), the Transportation Agency, the Regional Asset Management Agency (BPAD), and Bank Jakarta. In total, approximately 1,000 civil servants (ASN) have their offices in the building.
Despite the fire affecting several floors, Pramono stressed that all of Jakarta’s tax data remains safe because a digital backup system is in place. “Jakarta’s tax data is safe because it has been backed up digitally, so tax services are not disrupted,” he said.
He also confirmed that public services are continuing to run normally and that the public need not worry about the continuity of local government services. “Public service remains our main priority. The public should not worry, all services will continue to operate,” Pramono asserted.
However, the fire did impact the Traffic Management Control (TMC) or Intelligent Traffic Control System (ITCS) belonging to the Transportation Agency, which was located on the 16th floor. As a result, the traffic light system, which previously operated automatically, must temporarily be operated manually.
To anticipate traffic disruptions, Pramono has instructed the Transportation Agency to deploy additional personnel on the ground to ensure smooth traffic flow. “The Transportation Agency’s Traffic Management Control/ITCS was affected. Consequently, the traffic light control, which was previously automatic, is now being done manually,” he explained.
Meanwhile, to maintain the continuity of government operations, civil servants working in the Bapenda Technical Building will implement a temporary work scheme. Options being prepared include working from home in rotation, working at municipal-level agency offices, or utilising other assets belonging to the Jakarta Provincial Government.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Jakarta Provincial Government is continuing to coordinate with the police to determine the source of the fire. Pramono also confirmed that the Bapenda Technical Building is insured, so the post-fire handling process can be carried out in accordance with applicable regulations.
