Jakarta bans new padel courts in residential areas, limits operating hours to 8 p.m.
“For padel courts, it has been decided that new permits for the construction of padel courts are not allowed in residential zones. All must be located in commercial zones, for new ones,” Anung said at City Hall here on Tuesday. He conveyed this after holding a limited meeting with his ranks to discuss regulations on padel courts in Jakarta. Meanwhile, for padel courts already operating in residential areas and holding Building Approval (PBG) permits, Anung instructed his ranks, such as mayors and sub-district heads, to negotiate with the owners. The governor requested that licensed padel courts in residential areas operate no later than 8 p.m. local time to avoid disturbing residents. “Therefore, for all padel courts in residential areas, even those that have obtained PBG permits, the maximum operating time is 8 p.m.,” Anung stressed. Related news: Jakarta governor moves to limit padel court hours in residential areas Previously, Pramono had stated that he would limit the operating hours of padel courts, especially those located in the middle of residential neighborhoods. According to him, the sport, which is currently gaining popularity among many people in Jakarta, must uphold tolerance. The presence of padel courts should not disrupt residents’ daily lives, as that would be unfair to the local community. “There is even a one-and-a-half-year-old baby who cannot sleep because people are still shouting while playing padel at night. In my view, that is also not fair,” he said. The Jakarta Provincial Government said earlier it will take action against padel courts that disrupt public order and do not have approval from local residents. “We will immediately make a decision regarding padel courts that disturb public order, lack approval from local residents, and have incomplete permits,” Anung said on Friday (February 20).
